An upcoming NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 reference-design graphics card popped up in Hong Kong markets. The pictures reveal a reference design cooler that features a design that's slightly different/simpler from the GTX 1080/1070 reference cooler, and features NVIDIA company branding on its PCB, although the PCB code isn't printed in its usual location. The PCB itself appears to be shorter than the cooler, much in the same way as GTX 670, GTX 960 reference, and the RX 480 reference. There are no specifications to chew on, nor any information on what this card could be priced at.

I wonder if this is a functional card. If not, nice touch to put it on a major retailer bag for viral effect.

It probably is, but it still feels a bit weird to have fewer phases than even the lowliest GTX 950 card.

950 is not one of their most efficient cards I think

if this means the 1060 can get away with less than a 950 that's positive...

but, the VGA is ready to go? Nvidia was just waiting to spoil the RX480 party?

in any case, hopefully no "founders edition" this time...

No, the timing has nothing at all to do with AMD (really!).

Well unless as per rumours in the Pascal thread they're bringing it forwards a bit time wise vs plans etc.

Mostly its just what they do - 'top' cards first, then the medium to low cards once the stock levels/logistics etc on the top cards starts to be under control, and the publicity from the top card launch starts to run down a bit. Its very predictable and well organised, like nearly everything they do nowadays.

GTX 950 is actually one of the most efficient 28nm GPUs if you limit it to 75W

If the 1060 is low power enough to make do with only 2 phases to the GPU, then that would probably indicate that we're looking at a 75W or less card (the 750 Ti was a 2+1 design).

If we assume that 1060 is 75 and has the same efficiency improvements as GP104 (65-75%), then we would be looking at 80-90% the performance of a GTX 970, and 70-80% the performance of a 390X.

This would also leave a large gap in Nvidia's lineup TDP wise, with the 1060 at 75W and the 1070 at 150W.

Alternatively the 1060 is more than 75W of course, but then 2 phases seems a bit anemic. Looking at the pictured card and the size of the shroud and thus the cooler, it really doesn't look like a 75W card either.

The timing of this leak screams that they're reminding people that the 480 isn't the only show in town. Problem is they have a cooler and a PCB and aren't even showing the chip, and you've got to figure that if they had more they'd show it.

just fyi guys, more phases does not equate more power delivery. You can have powerful phases, so you don't need as much of them for a given power/current.
