9600GT

I think its decent. Definitely beats out the 8600GTS and is on par with the 8800GS.
Not bad.

Thoughts, comments???

So this place not only has access to the mysterious 8800GS but also the 9600GT and they leak both.. Possible? sure. Plauseable, nah.

"So how did you think about the incoming war between HD 3850\HD 3670 and 9600GT?" They seem to want to start a debate or whatever about something that hasent even happened yet...

CTR-R? F5? Google it and select 'cached'?

Google this address http://en.expreview.com/?p=184 and select cached... nm didnt work for me...

I wonder if they will be able to put out a version of these that doesn't require a power connector?

The internal driver for 9600GT is out today(deep inside the industry), we will get it later, so we have to mod the Device ID into 169.25WHQL?s NV_disp.inf. And the driver fully support the card. After the mod we managed to run a comparison test between G94 and two G92:

Testbed:

CPU: Intel Core 2 QX9650 Retail (333MzX9)
Mobo: Asustek Maximus Formula ROG X38 DDR2
Memory: Geil 1GBX2 DDR2-800 4-4-4-10-1T
HDD: WD 3200YS 7200RPM
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1 Beta V.668
Driver: 169.25WHQL (Moded with 8800GS and 9600GT info)

9600 GT:
-64 SP units
-32 TMU
-16? ROP's
-256-bit memory bandwith
-1800MHz memory clocks (256-bits + 1800MHz=57.6GB/s)
-650MHz core clock
-1625MHz shader clocks
-512MB GDDR3
-Uses D9M (mainstream(G94))-chipset..opposed to 8800 GT's D8P (G92).

Will take 8600 GTS's market place
-----

Yeah it will lose against HD3870 X2..no suprise there, but HD3870 X2 will cost like $400-$450..while this one will cost more like $140-$160.

A single HD3870 should beat this too. HD3870 X2 would beat a lot of cards....most any single card solution in games that scale decently. 9600 looks to be a nice part though.

Why are you be comparing a high-end video card to a mid-low end? The 3870 X2 is going to compete against the 8800 Ultra and its kin. You don't see the 8800 Ultra selling for $140-$160, do you?

Odd that it performs on par with an 8800GS in those synthetics, considering it's got 33% less SPs but a 15% and 10% boost in core and shader speed. I almost get those scores with a stock 3850 and an E2140 @ 2.9, so we'll see how it really does.

erm..you missed my point. I was against that HD3870 X2 vs. GF 9600 GT comparison and my argument was that price difference.

HD3870 should beat this, but it also costs like $100 more than Geforce 9600 GT.

HD3870 is based on RV670 AMD's current high end chip, Geforce 9600 GT is based on D9M..Nvidia's upcoming mainstream chip.

Geforce 9800 GX2 will have 2xD8P's and 9800 GT and GT (and perhaps GTX) utilizes D9P

Pconline review

So in few cases it's pretty close with HD3850 256MB, either one winning and in some cases 9600 GT 512MB wins by clear margin; reason (I think) is 512MB vram. Now it's up to price tag. Card's PCB is pretty simple and it uses Nvidia's midrange GPU (unlike 8800 GS), so we can see pretty cheap card here. Geforce 8800 GS 384MB costs like 150? in Germany, HD3850 256MB is like 135?. If these scores are right I think Geforce 9600 GT will be priced around 130?. We also have to keep in mind that Nvidia's cards also usually get significant boost to their performance with driver updates (like 8600 GTS have gotten since it's initial reviews)

We'll see about the cheap part. Heck, 8600GTS cards are still overlapping the Radeon 3850 cards in price.

So if the 9600GT and the 8800GS are so close in specs... Am I the only one wondering why they're releasing both new cards?

8800gs is supposed to be OEM only, ie goes to system builders. I'm sure a few will make it into retail channels, but that is supposed to be more of an exception. 9600GT is the card that goes retail and it makes sense considering how close 8800GS performance is to 8800GT.

Awesome, I say. Particularly if we see these on the streets $100-$125 like you can find the 8600GTS.

Weren't Geforce 8800 GS supposed to be temporary solution until Geforce 9600 GT arrives? They were going to manufacture limited amount (like 100000) of these cards to begin with

Yes it is. A filler solution in limited quantities for few selected vendors til the 9600GT arrives.

Do the G94 core support VP3 and hybrid power like the G96(9500)?

nvidia is dumping their G92's that failed QC for GT/GTS, ala 2900pro/gt series.

limited run, basically a number realistically only slightly higher than the number of duds sitting in "trash" bins they have stocked up.

if you have a ton of throwbacks/duds why not put it to use and throw it on the market?
