Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT Temperature

The Nvida control panel temperature display says my GPU core is 45C and the ambient temp is 28C when idle. Right after playing Doom 3 the GPU core is around 60C. Are these pretty good temperatures? Do you think I would be able to overclock my stock GT to Ultra (400/1100) speeds? What are the highest GPU core and ambient temps I should safely be able to run at? Thanks.

I'd say those are excellent temps. My BFG 6800 GT OC idles at 62C and the case it's in is practically a wind tunnel. I've seen it get up to 90C running rthdribl. I contacted BFG Support when I first saw how hot it was running and they said it wasn't a problem. It has a true lifetime warranty, so I'm not that worried about it. :D

those are so low id almost be suspicious!!!!.....mine idles at 60 degrees. i have the leadtek 6800gt with all 780grams off solid copper and heatpipe cooling it. their fan does run alot quieter than the reference cooler but of course this means its gonna get abit hotter.

how ever under operation my temps dont increase as much which is a good thing typically i only see a 7-10 degree increase playing doom3 and and even lesser number playing ut2004, rthdribl had my card at 79 degrees once !! that was overclocked to ultra speeds tho. ive noticed that overclocking to ultraspeeds on this card at least yeilds no major change in heat output.

Edit: i lie sorry mine idles at bout 56 degrees at 385mhz/1.05ghz (dont ask)

My BFG 6800 GT OC at stock speeds 370/1000 is at 61C idle right now after reaching 87C running RTHDRIBL with a room temp. of about 75F.

What brand of 6800 GT do you have? Those're some killer temperatures, my man! And obviously temperature will not be an issue with you when trying to achieve Ultra speeds. Its what kind of quality GPU and RAM you recieved with your card. Everyone's is different. My 6800 GT's core won't overclock to 410 MHz, while others are getting 425 MHz easily. All in the luck of the draw.

Wow, my GT idles around 56c. So I'd say you're running that thing in a refrigerator.

Those are EXCELLENT temps! My BFG Ultra idles around 55-62oC and under full load from rthdribl it goes as high as 81oC. 45oC is definitely nothing to worry about at all for a GT. :)

The 6800 series is reading ram not GPU temps guys. Pull your ram sinks off. you'll see what I'm talking about. I've done it and temps went up to 88C while I had a watercblock on GPU... Another indicator is I use the best CPU block on my GPU and temps read are close to you alls.and 15C higher than my CPU temps which uses twice the power at less than half core dissapation size.....however I have massive customs ram sinks..so it never exceeds 47C.

Nice product

Attaches to a PCI slot below the Video card and helps it keep cool. Some people say as much as 11c cooler. A great thing for over clockers.

Well, test with the 45C idle was run really early in the morning, the coolest time in the house. Later on in the day the temperature rose to about 50C and 32C ambient. I am also using a very big server case (Antec PlusView 1000) and have a case fan blowing air directly on the video card.

That's pretty hot. My 6800U is currently idling at 52C and rarely goes over 65C, even after hours of gaming.
