nvidia geforce 6600gt - tv output messed up from refresh?

i have a geforce 6600gt that i use as a tv out for my computer but sometimes there are weird artifacts that look like the refresh rate is a little messed up. the refresh on the tv is supposed to be constant and be less than my monitor but when i raise the framerate for winamp visualizations, the tv display gets very distorted.

i have previously used a geforce4 ti4200 and a radeon aiw 9600 and never had these tv out problems. i'm using the latest driver.

is there a setting i am missing, are the drivers messed up or is it a bug in the card?

any ideas would be appreciated!
