Nvidia Geforce 6100 "enough" for Vista aero?

I'm building a computer for my sister and she's not going to play games. The only stuff she'll do on the computer is school work, browsing, MSN, youtube, a little of video editing... you get the idea.

So I wonder if a geforce 6100 (no DVI) will be enough to handle Vista aero in a 19inch screen. If not, should I at least upgrade it to a Geforce 7100.

What I'm asking is the LEAST expensive card to handle windows Aero (since she's not a gamer).

Here's the computer I'm building:
CPU: Amd X2 4400+
Mobo: Asus M2N-MX SE
Video card: Onboard 6100
CD/DVD: LG 20X DVD writer
HD: WD 250 GB SATA
LCD: 19inch LCD

What about the onboard Radeon x1250 From the Asus M2A-VM? It has a DVI and do you think it will run Aero well @ 1440 x 900?

Yup, the Geforce 6100 handles Aero just fine. Just make sure to allocate at least 128mb frame buffer.

I'm not so sure, I have 6150SEs in my two test beds, and neither can run Aero. They can, however, run Compiz Fusion without a hitch though.

Hmm, strange, because a PC I built for someone from spare parts had the 6100 int. graphics and runs Aero Glass OK.

The Wikipedia link backs this up.

Disregard my statements, I forgot that those machines came with Vista Home Basic, no Aero available at all. Only my Vista Business desktop has Aero enabled and thats with my 2900XT.

My two dells with 6150 igp both run aero fine. I never tried changing the frame buffer allocation -- I could take a look if it's at 128mb. The dell bios might actually let me touch that. But does it really make a difference?

Trust me, I make my research before posting in forums. I didn't find a good enough answer in hardforums nor this one, hence this topic.

I chose the M2A-VM with 2 GB, I'm going to check how it is perform with Vista!

Thanks everyone!

People don't come to AnandTech because they want to be referred to some other site by Google.

Except that rather than get anecdotal evidence, OP can get it "straight from the horse's mouth", in this case DAAMIT. ;)

These are onboard solutions . . .

Though, you can get a real video card for about 30 bucks or so. A GF8400GS is dirt cheap, as are several other models.

I assembled the computer and the end result was good. My sister was happy with the computer using Vista aero and even tho the 3D windows flip thing wasn't as fast, it's good enough for a non-gamer

But in my case, I'll have to build a gaming system... but that's another story to come.

A bit late, but I have two identical biostar 6100-M9 mobos, one I run a 7900GS in to game, the other is my PVR and uses the integrated. Aero works just fine on the integrated 6100 provided I allocate 128MB ram to it.
