That my friend is a loaded question :)

anyway, since I have the GeForce and had the Voodoo5, I could tell you at first hand that you won't go wrong with either.

but, I am VERY impressed with what the Geforce cards can do :) the color is deeper and more vivid
on the Geforce cards but having said that if you are into flight sims and car racing, which I just happen to do both

the buzz is go with the V5 since it has a very good FSAA. Again having said that I play FPS and
combat jet sims and now racing sims, and I am now a die-hard GeForce man !!!

It truly is a choice of what one likes the most...but what ever you decide make sure that its the real McCoy and not some lame-O version.

What is in your system? FSAA for me is the best new thing around, which is why I dumped my geforcegts for a V5 5500. I play UT, FAKK, Elite Force.

I've had both.

they both kick ass.

with the new drivers (see other post), the 5500 is right up close to the GTS in performance in all areas (Except 3dMark2000 Arena, heh...) and beats it in others.

If you're going to buy this card now, and dump it after a year, the 5500 should be just fine. If you're looking to buy a card now, so that you can play the games that come out in a year (stupid, IMHO, but that's just me) then the GTS is for you.

In other words, the GTS is slightly more "future-proof", whereas the 5500 may be a better choice now.

and yeah, this question is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO loaded, it's not even funny.

I have had two V5's...took em both back, and have been completely satisfied with the GeForce GTS. V5's run hot, and the GeForce wins almost all benchmarks against the V5.

cabojoe, the benchmarks you see on websites are getting MUCH closer (i.e. using the new 1.03 drivers) in high-res and 32-bit color

in FSAA, the 5500 owns the GTS, period.

also, the VAST VAST majority of games don't have benchmarks enabled. Go to any of the flight or racing sim website forums and ask them what *their* dreamcard is.....they won't be telling you it's a GTS, that's for sure!

Many of the flight sims today are glide compatible. For these th voodoo 5 is the best because of glide and FSAA. For D3D only games the Geforce is superior.I have bothe the Geforce and the voodoo 5 and use the one that gets the best results for the particular game I am playing.

where are hardware and bfg10k? Where where where? Anyways, i've had both, if you want good 2d in regular apps, at 1280 and above, get the v5, actually get a radeon. The gf2 if you are gonna get one dont get an asus or a CL , bad 2d. Just get a radeon. Smartest choice i'd say. The v5 is a good card, but its not the fastest.

On another note, anand always says something like "the difference in these motherboards is not noticeable, you should check out what other features and things it has" , i think this applies to graphics cards now, since we all know that they really aren't future proof since you'll just buy a new card when new stuff comes out. So... i'd look at 2d quality, tv outs, FSAA, ease of installation that type of thing more, than raw 3d speed since with just "the feel of it" pretty much any card that costs over $100 is fine for pretty much every game, unless you are totally INSANE like some people on these boards

well, i had a CL2 32mb about 2 months ago, and replaced it with a Radeon 64DDR VIVO... and LOVE IT!

I also have a Voodoo5 i just stuck in my other rig (to replace my G400), and i would love to tell you if it's better than the GF2 i had, but 3dfx drivers site is down right now!!! I actually came here to ask if anybody has the latest driver that they could upload to me. Anyways, when i get it up and running i'll tell you how it is compared to the GF2.

Can anybody send me the latest drivers for the Voodoo5?

I'm right here! Thanks for asking! :D

which video card would be the best for gamming?

GF2 all the way. You get better performance and more features, plus the card is much more future proof than the Voodoo. Take the performance "gains" with the new drivers mentioned in this foum with a grain of salt. There is no evidence to back up their claims anywhere.

Having said that if you have an old motherboard or are heavily into Glide/flight/racing games then I guess you could get a Voodoo 5. Personally if I was forced to get a Voodoo I'd get a V4 because 3dfx would get less out of my pocket. ;)

Hmm....I like disabling fast-writes. I like being only allowed to run at 1x AGP. Oh OH! I love having to buy a 330WATT power supply JUST for my GeForce! Of course I'm talking about my old SDR GeForce 1, but wha? My friend has a MSI K7TPRO and 1.1GHZ processor and is restricted to the Det 2 drivers. It's just pitiful. He's got a hot rod system...but the video card that everyone loves to use to bash the competitors, is his bottleneck. A pity.

Meanwhile, I've got my Voodoo5 5500 at 185MHZ on 800MHZ T-bird system, and everything's smooth as silk. The visual quality is MUCH better than what I experienced on my GeForce, and the FSAA quality...dear God, it's not even funny how much better the V5 is than the GTS.

And talk about a hot card...the V5 5500 may be .25mu, but it sure runs hella cool with my two RDJD K601s:)

Long Live 3DFX, for they and ATI are the only companies keeping Nvidia from taking over the video card market.

Hmm....there was a month difference in two of the posts here..:) I'll say what I was going to say before I saw that anyway. :) The GF2 is a better overall card, unless you're like me and play alot of UT and sports sims. FSAA makes Madden 2001 look SOOOOOOOOO much better, and while I've never seen the GF2's FSAA in action, most people will agree that the V5's is better.
