1) I'm surprise no one post this?
2) maybe i miss it in search
3) The sec caught a few engineer do some trading
4) sorry i was on phone

Thanks for the explanation, though. I now understand what forcesho was trying to say.

I don't know if khtm was being sarcastic or not:

The SEC (Securities and Exchance Comission - regulates stock trading) caught a few enginners at NVIDIA doing some insider trading based on information from the Microsoft X-Box deal - its unusual because its the lower level workers.

The Securites and Exchange Commission (SEC) caught some lower-level nvidia workers trading shares illegally. It is illegal to trade stock shares based on confidential information (info that has not yet been released to the public) reguarding business decisions.

It made sense to me! SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) is an acronym, though, and should be capitalized.

I guess that investing terminology isn't YOUR first language, eh? :)

Who cares? It were some low-level workers. We all knew that there were nVidia chips in the XBox, so it's not any big secret.

uhmm, these dudes KNEW before it was announced that NVIDIA had gotten the deal. At that point nobody knew, at least not officially. They knew because of a in company memo. Its a big deal because its highly illegal.

yeah, but maybe they know something about the xbox that we don't... maybe it has some type of hypnotic device in it that will infiltrate the world with subliminal messages; influencing people to buy only M$ products and to kill everyone who won't. :)

Edit: Spelling

uhmm, so it's illegal to buy stock in the company you work for if you know they're gonna get a good contract? well that sucks.

Yeah... I can't remember what exactly it's called. But almost every publicly traded company's employee handbook has it in there, stating that it is illegal to do such. You just can't do it until the investors know, when it's made public. Otherwise, since you (being employeed in that company and having first-hand knowledge of what's going on) have an unfair advantage over joe-shmoe stock holder who buys/sells according to public news.

the stock market is based on SPECULATION. If you KNOW what's going to happen, there isn't any speculation going on, is there? People could use this to scam millions of $s off of other people (if you know bad news is coming for your company - short sell). The stock market is supposed to be a level playing field.
