Nvidia dual display issue

I just bought an nvidia geforce gt 1030 video card with hdmi and dp ports and I hooked up my samsung tv as a monitor works great, got the reolution and everything down right and I wanted to use my actual computer monitor as a duplicate which is VGA. So I purchased a dp to vga adapter and connected it and it won't come on I have the monitor driver installed and everything, but no picture shows up on the monitor. It is an AOC monitor if that matters. Any help would be appreciated thanks. Oh also the Nvidia control panel won't detect the display even when I try the rigorous detection.
