nVidia drivers

So, I heard a while back that nVidia driver support in Vista was incredibly bad. Have the issues been resolved and is the situation looking better for Windows 7?

Never tried in Win 7 but they weren't bad for Vista. I used it with an 8800GT for about a year in Vista. There were some problems when Vista first came out but they've been fixed I think.

Nvidia's Vista drivers are now better than the XP ones. Has been that way for some time.

Vista problems are exaggerated.

Was the case only for the first few months after release of Vista. Both ATi and nVidia drivers have been very stable for me. All my machines use Vista and I haven't seen a graphics driver related BSOD for a long time.

I think it's safe to say a lot of improvements have been made in that area. XP drivers have certainly improved by leaps and bounds.

nV's platform drivers for Vista were disgustingly bad at Vista's launch, their vid card drivers not so much(they weren't perfect by any means, but I rarely had any issues with my machines running Intel mobos and nV graphics). Since beta I thought that ATi and nV were pretty close in driver stability under Vista, ran both a 1800xtx and a 6600GT machine and both had the occasional issue, no deal breakers though.

As of right now I think you will find that all of the vendors have superior support under Vista then they do under XP, and Win7 is going to use the Vista driver model.

nVidia's Vista drivers were pretty bad at launch. I remember hanging onto an old beta driver for months because newer official drivers would cause my monitor to go blank when Windows loaded.

That was about two years ago though. Both ATI and nVidia's Vista drivers have been top-notch for a while.

Part of the reason why there were driver issues with the Vista launch was that the driver model was updated for Vista. Windows 7 will use the same driver model, so it should be a much cleaner transition. (Like how Windows 2000 drivers mostly worked for Windows XP at launch.)

NV's Windows 7 drivers look very good. I installed RC (built 7100) the other day, and so far the experience with a 8500GT has been very pleasant. It looks/feels even better than HD3850 so I am very impressed. Is 8500GT = 9400m? (spec-wise)
