NVIDIA drivers under Linux

I am a seasoned windows user who is trying his hand at Linux. I had Red Hat 7.0 installed and working on my previous machine with an old S3 integrated video chip. Now I installed Mandrake 8.0 on my new system with an Asus V7100 2V1D currently driving a NEC Ambix LCD in digital (DVI-D) mode. I booted into the bash shell and unpacked the proper NVIDIA driver rpm's. However, I do not know what to do to configure the X server to use these drivers. When I type startx I get an error that says that the X server cannot be found, even though it was installed. What do I need to do to get X configured properly with the installed drivers?

One more question . . . How do you get Lilo to set the default OS to Windows instead of Linux in text mode? I have done this before in X, but never in text mode and I am tired of having to select "NT" from the boot loader whenever I want to reboot Win2K. Thanks.
