good morning all,
i installed forceware 163.71 and 163.76 BETA yesterday. previously I had 162.18 with no issues at all. the reason I installed them is because nvidia claims TF2 and Episode 2 improvements, as well as Crysis improvements (I am playing the MP beta). And there are improvements, although these games don't make use of SLI yet, when they run in single-gpu mode there is clear gain in fps.
basically to make a long story short, with the 163 series of drivers, both the WHQL and the BETA, SLI is doesn't work for all other games. I run all my games at 2560x1600 with 4x AA, and the performance hit is pretty damn noticeable. DOD:S went from 150 fps to 77 fps in the same usual spot I test in, CS Source stress test went from 270 fps to 150 fps, and so on. BF2 runs like ass as well. If I turn the SLI visual indicators they don't come up during the game (since SLI isn't kicking in). If I set split-frame, or AFM1 or AFM2 manually in the control panel, then SLI kicks in and the visual indicators show up.
my question is can someone with GTS or GTX SLI try these drivers and tell me if SLI is working or not. It seems like the game profiles are not kicking in when the game is launched. Sure, I gained a few fps in Episode 2 and TF2 with the new drivers, but I lost SLI for all my other games? Plus EP2 and TF2 are still running in single-gpu mode, and if I force SLI for EP2 and TF2 with one of the 3 methods, the visual indicators show up and I get a performance loss. Great, two GPUs and less performance than one.
thanks for any help you can give me. I've rolled back to 162.18 already and everything is working like it should, but I'd still like to know WTF is going on with these new drivers.
