nVidia drivers-cannot find compatible device, unable to install drivers

Ok, so my video card has been very unstable as of late, routinely crashing with message of "(something).dll has recovered from a fatal error" or something similar.

However when I try and reinstall the drivers, the ones on nVidia's site claim they cannot find a compatible piece of hardware on my system. So I look for older versions and I get the same thing. The video card is an 8600m GT, running on Windows Vista 64 Ultimate. Now I go to the ACER website, and the drivers they have are only x32 and wont run on the x64 OS.

So basically I'm now stuck with a videocard that was unstable, now that has no drivers, and none of the drivers that I can find will work


Does anyone have any suggestions and has this issue come up before?

1) Remove any nVidia software through Control panel.
2) Download, install, then run Driver Sweeper.
3) Reboot, and tell Windows you don't want to install drivers.
4) Click on the driver .exe file to install.

Is that an "m" model? as in on a laptop?, try going to the manufacturers website and getting the drivers there. I'm not sure if it is still the case, but in the past the drivers from nvidia dont work on all of their mobile chips. Or more to the point, the dirver doesnt recognise the chip because nvidia did not place the model in the list of recognised chips... Anyway go to the manufacturer, or if they do not have updated drivers check out, laptopvideo2go . com
