nVidia drivers and RivaTuner

I tried to OC my eVGA 7600GT with RivaTuner, but it does not look like the core clock ever changes. Someone on guru3d.com suggested that certain nVidia drivers just don't work with OCing. Can anyone tell me a version of the ForceWare drivers that is known to allow RivaTuner to change clock speeds, and where I could download that version from?

I am not familiar with RivaTuner, but have you tried Coolbits? That is what I have always used and it works great with everything so far that I have tried. Actually, I use the Omega drivers for my compy instead of the forceware drivers.

Try using the latest official Forceware and you won't have this problem anymore. And for overclocking video cards, riva tuner is the best tool, combined with Ati tool that can help you find any stability issues.

Well, that's exactly what I'm doing, and it doesn't work so great for me 😉 The changes just do not appear to take effect.

The reason I say this is, I move the slider, hit Test, then Apply. The slider stays where it is, but the hardware monitor never reflects a chance in Core speed. I've closed and reopened the monitor and that didn't work. I closed and restarted RivaTuner... same thing. The Core always shows 561 MHz. The Memory core, I've gotten to change once or twice. I don't know how. Move the slider, it stays. Move the slider some more, it stays. Look away, do something, look back, and the monitor shows a higher Memory core. Fiddle with it some more, and it's back to stock.

So... what do I need to do to make the overclocking take effect?

Try 169.17

BTW if all you see is 561mhz thats most likely the 2Dclocks if you fire up a 3d app like ATI Tool's artifact scanner or run a game in a window you'll see the clocks go up alot higher into 3dmode and the OC'd settings you changed will take effect.

The 561 I see is the "baseline" in the RivaTuner hardware monitor. And I see that for all three core clock charts (geometric, shader, & ROP).

Does it go up when you start a 3D app like 3Dmark or a game? Odd that the core+shader have the same frequency even if it is 2dclocks.

Don't ask me why, but I had the same thing happen with my 8800 GTS. I'd use Riva and the changes wouldn't be seen in the hardware monitor, but I downloaded PowerStrip and used that and then in the hardware monitor in Riva it showed that I OC'd from 513 to 600MHz.

I hope it helps!!

I haven't used RivaTuner in a while but I recall there was an option somewhere that the changes only take effect in a 3D application, not on the windows desktop. Leave RivaTuner running and go play a game and come back to check if the clocks changed while you were playing.

I could be mistaken and this option was in some other app, but try it.
