again the worst drivers ever released from Nvidia were WHQL. there were two sets of drivers that were known to let cards overheat, one of them of course is the really infamous 196.75. no beta driver from Nvidia has ever come close to causing the issues those drivers did.
(1) WHQL doesn't test for the card frying itself; it's assumed the vendor can manage their own cooling.

(2) Those drivers didn't fry anything for me.

Regardless, that's beside the point. The point is that WHQL certification requires more requirements than a beta that doesn't have any, aside from a basic signature.

Nobody claimed WHQL drivers are perfect, just that they're tested more than beta drivers, and that historically beta drivers have had far more issues. I bet I've tried more beta drivers than you, in far more games.

For the most part, I do think WHQL is a "paid-for-digital-sticker".
That's the interesting thing about opinions: they don't have to reflect reality.

What recent Nvidia drivers have failed Microsoft's WHQL testing? I don't know of any.
Eh? None of the WHQL ones have failed them; that's part of the definition to get the certification.

As for the beta ones, how would I know?

I bet if Nvidia submitted the vast majority of their beta drivers for WHQL certification they would pass without problems.
You know this how, exactly? Do you have access to nVidia's log files?

WHQL isn't going to check for the disastrous bugs that end users actually care about.
You mean like multi-threading race conditions and not releasing critical resources when necessary? Yeah, nobody cares about those </sarcasm>
