NVidia Control Panel & Drivers (270.61)

I just uninstalled the 3D Vision drivers and the HD Audio Driver that was installed during my updating of the NVidia drivers from 270.51 to 270.61.

When I restarted the PC, I got an automatic popup saying "Installing Device Drivers" and when I clicked the popup, this showed up:

Drivers.jpg

When I checked Device Manager, this showed up:

Drivers2.jpg

What on earth is going on?

Why are there so many "High Definition Audio Devices" showing up?

I have a webcam (Logitech C910), my speaker system (Altec Lansing 2.1) which is connected to my sound card (Creative SB X-Fi Titanium HD which has its own driver).

I am actually trying to diagnose an issue I've been having in Bad Company 2 Vanilla where the game will intermittently freeze and crash to the desktop (C2D). I am able to play Vietnam or any other game for hours without any hitch but for some odd reason, BC2 Vanilla crashes to the desktop after about 20 minutes of playing. I did a bit of research and someone suggested uninstalling the NVidia HD Audio Driver and so I did that, but now I get this weird multi-HD Audio device nonsense.

Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening? What is the solution? And, on that note, if someone can help me with the BC2 issue, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

No idea whats happending with your system, but yeah... odd that nvidia drivers update gave you "extra" HD Audio devices.

Try removeing them and see if they "come back".
Otherwise try reverting back to older drivers (after removeing those HD Audio devices), and see if issue is still there.

If you where a AMD user, nvidia fanboys would be going "typical AMD, they have horrible drivers".

The Nvidia "HD Audio" drivers have always given my system troubles, I don't let them be installed anymore.

Not really sure why Nvidia is in the business of writing/installing audio-drivers (holdover from their mobo chipset days?) but on my mobos (which are not Nvidia) the audio drivers will install automatically unless I do a custom install and deselect them. If I do not do that then my new and improved Nvidia HD Audio results in my system no longer having audio (it replaces the Realtek HD Audio that my mobo uses/needs).

I look at it like all those darn Bing toolbars that everybody and their brother is paid to co-install with their application on your rig. Sanctioned Adware.

I always choose advanced installation with no audio driver and still somehow end up with 10 iterations of the high def audio device.

I don't.

I have 2-gtx 460's

To avoid the driver/ or windows seeing the hdmi audio, you go under device manager.
System devices
disable High Definition audio controller
I do this to
pci bus 1
pci bus 2

the one I don't touch is the Realtek audio, on board m/b.
That is High Def audio controller on PCI bus 0

That is very interesting.

I haven't seen those until now. I checked under System Devices and it shows FIVE (5) High Definition Audio Controller choices. They are:

1.) PCI Bus 7
2.) PCI Bus 6
3.) PCI Bus 0
4.) PCI Bus 15
5.) PCI Bus 14

I have 2 GTX-590s in SLI so is that the 4 other ones (other than PCI Bus 0)?

So what should I do now? Disable those 4 and then reinstall the driver(s) or just disable them? I have already removed the 3D Vision and HD Audio driver from the Control Panel (Uninstall).

I believe, like mine the HD controller at pci 0 will be your m/b.
And I take it the one your using.
So , Yes, right click, try disabling those other 4. Make sure you still have sound after each one if you choose.
Reboot.
Try installing Nvidia drivers again.

I still choose custom, and don't install 3dVision, I don't even see option to install audio driver.

These HD Audio drivers caused me issues so now i don't install them. The thing is, i don't remember my graphics card having a HDMI port to output audio so why would the drivers try to install them anyway?

I disabled those specific PCI Bus audio controllers and that seems to have done the trick! :)

Now, I don't have 10 different HD Audio Device Controllers showing up.

Hopefully, BC2 will be fixed as well.

In the settings.ini file, do you have to put "2" next to SpeakerCount? It is usually "0".
