This statement is simply not true either. 6800GTs and ultras in SLI deliver significantly greater performance in 1600x1200 4AA/8AF in shader intensive games. The problem is 99% of today's game are simply not complex enough in the shader department to show their advantages.

As you can see in the last 2 games SLI isn't even breaking a sweat as increasing image quality setting does nothing for the performance drop of SLI setup. In MOST intensive games SLI maintains 60+ frames per second at 1600x1200 4AA/8AF, something X850 XT PE can only dream of! In some cases SLI setup is faster with AA/AF enabled even at the same resolution.

Anandtech X850 XT PE Review
The more intensive the games will be the more you'll start to see the advantage of SLI. What many fail to notice is that in some games SLI might run 60 frames at 1600x1200 4AA/8AF and x850 pe runs at 45 frames same settings. Doesnt sound like a lot. The problem is at 1600x1200 noAA/noAF, SLi still runs at 60 meaning that in the 4AA/8AF setting, it is still CPU limited not letting us see its true potential until even more intense games come out.
Sure I dont think SLI is worth it. But saying that X850 is within 10-20% of 6800GT/Ultra SLI setup is ludicrous as X850 is maybe 15% faster than 6800Ultra on average. So since SLI brings 70-80% improvement in speed for 2 cards, logically this doesnt even make sense unless people think that X850 is 60% faster than 6800Ultra???!
Toms' Hardware confirms this - it only makes sense to analyze the most shader intensive games out right now:
Doom 3
Far Cry
Battlefield Vietnam
Besides if you tried, you can find SLI right now. X850 cards are nowhere to be found and wont be until January it seems now. I do own an ATI card BTW. It would be nice for someone to do a review with 2048x1536 resolution to really see what these cards can do.
The biggest problem for SLI setup in my eyes is that in 6-8 months, next generation cards will offer this kind of performance, with better features perhaps for 2x less the cost.
