Ok I am just very happy to say that I finally ditched that Radeon VE I bought by...mistake with the best choice my budget could take: The Gainward GeForce2 Ti/450 Golden sample Since I ve been away from nvidia 8 months now, I want to ask the following regarding the 28.32 driver settings
a. Is there a choice for anisotropic filtering under Direct3D?
b. Is the 32bit z-buffer supported in D3D? 3Dmark2001 shows only 16,24 under the benchmark's settings....

P.S: I am very pleased with the performance for a 140euros buy-5000 3D marks and 128fps in QuakeIII @1024x768 HQ for starters....

I just dloaded the pdf overview of the GF2 family -Ti included of course- from nVidia. It clearly states 32bit z-buffer and anisotropic filtering support.
BUT: 3D winbench2000 reports aniso is off by the device and runs all tests in 24bit zbuff regardless if I set it to 32bit and 3DMark2001 gives me only 16,24 bit z-buffer selections.
Could anisotropic filtering be supported but not existent in the display prperties setting tab? In OpenGL u have full control of it there...
How about the 32bit z-buffer? Any reasonable explanation? What's your experience and display settings?

P.S: I run nvidia's 28.32 set.

You can get tweaking utilities that work well.

(Be careful, they will let you adjust "anything" so know what you are messin' with before making adjustments)

RivaTuner is the one I like to use.

Yes my friend it's very well known as a tweaking utility but I am sick of that stuff.... I just wanna know what happens with these issues (anisotroping filtering and support of 32bit z-buffer) that even my Radeon VE had....

The answers to these questions are:

a. NO (This is not an option in the windows (det. 2832) display properties window
b. NO (This is not an option in the 3DMark2001se system "change" settings window)

Thanx!
a. The good news: I am not blind! The bad news: Does this fact means that aniso is not supported at all or u just can handle it by each game's own settings every time? (like u can in Max Payne)
b. The fact that the 32bit buffer 3DMark setting existed in my Radeon VE extra crippled core means that my double-powered in performance GF2Ti can't support it???? :Q
Or could it be kind of a bug since nvIdia claims full 32zbp support?

P.S: It makes a great impression to me that the majority of GF 2/3 owners doesn't care for the support of these basic video settings....

Sounds like you need a radeon.

(either that or learn how to set up an Nvidia)

OOPS! was that argumentative?

a. Is there a choice for anisotropic filtering under Direct3D?
No although the board certainly supports it independent of the API. To get to the Direct3D anisotropic settings use a utility like RivaTuner.

b. Is the 32bit z-buffer supported in D3D? 3Dmark2001 shows only 16,24 under the benchmark's settings....
It's 24 bit Z + 8 bit stencil.

Thanx a lot BFG! I was waiting for u to give an answer to my thread!
One last thing tho- Does this mean that if I just select aniso in a game like MaxPayne without using RivaTuner, will it work? I mean, is it enabled by default at least or I have to do this through the utility? (I don't care about extra setings on it just to know it works if I put it on)

What you are asking about requires a 3rd party utility.

Of course, you have been told that........ um......... Three times now in this thread.

Should we re-visit the blind thingy?

The only answer I respect out of the 3 u mentioned is BFG's because it had what a proper answer needs:EXPLANATION Simple lines with "NO" , "I remember" without any explanation at all are not considered answering but a waste of time for me-so, don't bother. Thanx a lot

Yes.

You only need to use a utility like RivaTuner for Direct3D games that don't have the anisotropic filtering option but you want force it anyway. If the game has a setting for it, it'll use it when you enable it.
