Nvidia/ATI in the same system?

Is it possible to have an AGP Nvidia card and a PCI ATI card in the same computer for use in multiple monitors? Has anyone tried or done this before? Am I crazy to even consider this?

Never thought about that, but my first reation to such a question is no or not very good preformance. Just like having both drivers from Ati and Nvidia on the same system causes conflicts that can degrade preformance I would see the same but worse with both [drivers] being used at the same time. In the end if you want multiple monitors just buy a GF4MX for less than $70 (or whatever they cost) and do it the easy way.

good quesiton i would also like to know the answer, i wonder how the driver conflict would work out then, or if the two cards would just attempt to kill each other on sight

I dont see why not, I have used many different branded PCI cards as my second card (but not ATI & nVidia). And all have worked well. On the driver side, it should work fine. Not sure if both display control panels can co-exist though.

Hopefully you'll get some replies from people that have actually tried this.

I've had nVidia/Matrox, nVidia/3dfx (Voodoo 3), 3dfx/Matrox, Matrox/Cirrus Logic, and all have been perfectly fine, no problems at all. Unless you've got a dual head card (like my Ti4200), then overlay will only be on the primary monitor, for DVDs/videos/games, but you can display anything 2d on the 2nd monitor

I'm doing it run now.... AGP nVidia GF2 Ti, and a PCI Radeon 7000. No driver interoperatbility issues at all between the two.
