Nvidia and ATI to launch new chips in February

NFS4

No Lifer

<< The usual six-month transition interval between products of different generations has been greatly reduced in the graphics chip market. Just a few months after their last launches, Nvidia and ATI Technologies will introduce their new, 0.15-micron-processed graphics chips in February.

According to sources, the volume production schedule for Nvidia?s NV25 and NV17 chips is now certain to be postponed from January to February. So as not to harm the sales of its current product lines, Nvidia would not give specific details about the new products. However, many first-tier graphics card makers have already received samples and begun product design.

Cool!

If ATi can shape up their drivers enough to be on par with nVidia's by then, I might just trust them enough to buy whatever they're comming out with.

Anyways, Cool! 🙂

That's what people have been saying about EVERY new release from ATi. Too bad they haven't gotten there yet 😀

Awesome, I won't be back from Hawaii till mid-March.

Either I will be flat broke and won't get anything, skip the current lines (8500/Ti500) and go for the very latest (IF performance warrants) it or get the 8500 or Ti500 THEN at a much reduced price.

It's always good to have choice.

Thanks for the head's up, as always!

<< ATI said that its latest R300 chip will also support the DirectX9 platform. >>

DX9 will not be finalized until at least Q3. You cannot make DX9 compliant card with it first being finalized. Instead, there will be faster clocked Radeon 8500.

If I'm not mistaken, the original Radeon was shipped before DX8 was released and it was DX8 "compatible"

volume production in feb? see boards in march i would guess.

ati's drivers are quickly catching up... the recent ones reviewed over at hardocp seemed pretty good.

Radeon supported few basic DX8 features, but lacked the major ones. And compatible =| compliant.

It doesn't matter, it's marketing speak. Even if supportsd a "few" DX9 features, ATi will play it off like they did with the Radeon.

Anyone else find it funny how its becoming "Cool" to root for ATI? When 3DFX was around it was cool to root for NVIDIA, but now that NVIDIA is on top, its back to the little guy again😕

ATI is really not the "little guy".

They are the "underdog" and rooting for the underdog is an American tradition.

We have also seen signs of how arrogant Nvidia is and how much they would charge if they were the undisputed leader in graphics cards.

Just as consumers need a strong and healthy AMD and Intel, we NEED a strong and healthy Nvidia and ATI. Plus it would get boring here without those threads.

Have faith for the sake of competition 😉

Did you miss the HardOP review. It looks like their latest Beta drivers have finally pulled them nearly equal to Nvidia's best. For a much cheaper card, it's a very viable alternative.

Here:

<< Overall the Radeon 8500's new 3286 drivers are a great step in the right direction. It's good to see the performance increase and the image quality fix's in these drivers. ATI has come a long way in terms of drivers. With the 3286 drivers the Radeon 8500 is competition for the GeForce3 Ti 500. >>

I have been an ATI fan all my computer uh... "career" if you will... Even though there have been times where i've read reviews that said "HAHAH YOU PAID TOO MUCH FOR TOO LITTLE PERFORMANCE, DOH!" I thought to myself, yeah.. shoulda bought nVidia. But the truth is before speed you have to have quality, and the Visual Quality of the ATI cards far surpass the nVidia cards.

<< I would put my life on the line and bet that ATI won't have a card ready for Febuary. >>

Really? You "would" or you "will"?

Think we'll miss you around here? :Q

😀

Of course there are the semantics of "ready" . . . the 8500 was released before it was "ready". 😉
