Nvidia Advice for next card

Net

Golden Member
What I need to do:

-support 3 monitors (dvi)
-play left for dead 2

goal:

Get a card or cards that are at the same speed as two gigabyte geforce gtx 460s at the lowest cost. Also have the card or cards run near silent like the gigabyte geforce gtx 460s (I use to have these and would be fine having them again).

Updates per request

resolution: 1920×1080
brand wanted: Nvidia

You don't really state resolution, and the source engine is not particularly demanding (so noise isn't going to become a factor). Without more info, I would say anything AMD or nvidia midrange or better.

However, you need to give far more info.

You just need one card for triple monitor gaming. Your going high resolution and even 2 460 1GB might struggle. I suggest get a single card a powerful one like a GTX 570 and OC the heck out of it. That will be faster then your 2 460's I believe. gl But left for dead just requires a 460 1GB and youll get 100fps everywhere you look. I dont know how the engine scales to higher resolutions,,, then a second 460 might be in order, but like I said grab the 570 and OC it instead. gl

For L4D2 @ 3*1920*1080, you're set with a single 7950 3GB.

It will be more than twice as fast as 460 SLI (remember that SLI scaling is not 100%, more like 70-80%). Even a 7870 2GB would probably get you enough performance... but I would not want 2GB VRAM at that resolution.

For more demanding games, I would want a PSU and motherboard with crossfire support (x8/x8 PCIe + 650-750W).

Are you planning to play on 3 screens, or are you planning to have a desktop of 3 screens and playing on only one screen?
1.option: You need a fast card with high memory bandwidth. So you should probably get a GTX670
2.option: You should probably get along well enough with a 660.

The OP requested specific advice to which you completely disregarded. Did you fail to read it or just completely ignore it?

In a thread called "Nvidia Advice for next card" your post seems rather misplaced. He goes on to highlight in his post:
OP said:

I dont know how you couldve missed that but okay.....

OP the options for you are the GTX 680 or go with the 670 and overclock it to match the 680. I would say get a good custom design for the gtx 670. This fits your specific request and would use a lot less power than your SLI rig. Also you dont have any multicard woes to boot.

If you want to get a card now, those are the best fit for your request. I expect some holiday deals coming in about a month or so. Especially those black Friday deals and others all the way to Christmas.

The first half of 2013 could bring more options to the table if your willing to wait it out. But really none of us have much solid information on how that will pan out. So i think it will be awhile before any big changes.

Are you looking to span the game across all the monitors, or just to play with one at 1080p, but use three when not gaming?
