Does anyone have any links to info on the 9800s coming from nvidia? Any idea on a release date? I just bought an 8800GTS from evga and am hoping that it releases in the next 90 days so i can step up to it through their program.

The only solid info we currently have is that an 8700 series (G92) will come out to replace the 8800GTS and 8600, and a G98 card will replace the lower end, I'm guessing 8500 and under.

Why would Nvidia use a lower model number (8700) to denote better performance than a higher one (8800GTS)?

Or is it that the 8800GTS will be discontinued?

IIRC, the 8700 performs nearly as well as the 8800, but is made on a smaller process (I think 65nm). Thus, they're cheaper to produce and are priced lower.

This is really frustrating. nVIDIA now unlike previous years have kept control of leaks. Even the usual "insiders" have no idea what to expect. Its not too soon from november and all sorts of rumours are floating about. Not a single concrete leak on G92 or G9x.

The only thing i can think of so far that is concrete are:
the 1 teraflops figure, G92, 8700 series and 65nm.

The other things floating around are displayport, SLi 2.0, pure video 3.0, 512bit etc etc. Not really sure what to expect.

note - the latest conference held by nVIDIA reports a 2 billion dollars worth of profit by the years end.

Nvidia's gross revenue for FY 2007(Feb 2006 - Jan 2007) was only 3bil, their revenue for FY H1 2008 is only 1.75bil. Of that they had a profit of about 450mil for FY 2007 and 304mil for FY H1 2008. They're not going to have a 2 billion dollar profit, they're not even going to be close.

How long were the 8800 cards out? its gonna be a slow release for a next gen card. Hopefully more games mature on Direct X 10.

so their next batch of cards should come out by December 16th? That's when my "step up" window closes through EVGA and I'm hoping they'll release something more powerful than my 8800GTS.
