Nvidia 9600GT vs ATI 3850/3870 Power Consumption

I've recently read several reviews that compared these cards. Every review shows different power consumptions. One review shows 9600GT with lower consumption, while another has ATI in the lead.

I currently have a 7600GT which only uses approx 100 watts max. I'd like to find a replacement that is a little faster, yet is not power hungry. Any advice?

They all have one PCIe connector so it's safe to say they are pretty close with full load consumption being around 100W. Radeons have the PowerPlay feature which drops core clocks when they aren't used which results in lower idle consumption. I haven't read of a similar feature on Nvidia cards.

Between these two I would get the 3870, it just seems a bit more powerful then the 9600 GT and it also has directX 10.1 support.
Also, what is your PSU, as you seem to be interested in the power consumption?

I think this has to do with that secret OC that some other website is claiming nVidia is doing. As you'll notice, the one where the 9600 is drawing more power is using an nVidia chipset, and the scores are also higher. This seems to match up with what this site is claiming. So I suppose it'll depend on how fast you want to run the 9600.
