Short version:
Which brand would you go with between the Gigabyte G1 Gaming and the ASUS Strix? Either 970 or 980.

Semi-followup: Would you do one 980 or two 970 SLI?

Long version:
System is:
CPU: 3930k
MB: ASUS X79 Rampage IV (non-black)
Mem: 32GB Gskill

Current graphics: Two ASUS 560TI Direct CUII in SLI.

I want to upgrade the 560s. I've had VERY good luck with ASUS so I'm considering the ASUS Strix cards.

BUT, I have a source with Gigabyte G1 Gaming cards in stock that aren't price gouged for both the 970s and 980s.:whiste:

I'm upgrading just to upgrade. Sound is one of my criteria.

I thought I saw a report that one of the manufactures of the 900 cards was having issues but now I can't find out who:oops: Was it Gigabyte?

I know the single versus SLI is a hot bed. But I've noticed no issues with SLI of my 560s so I'm not scared to go that route.

Intended use is gaming but also CUDA programming.

970 since the 980 doesn't bring much extra for the huge premium.

970 SLI would be tempting if NV has fixed maxwell SLI which has had some pretty big issues. I haven't seen any reviews with the newest drivers yet, but the launch drivers were abysmal in SLI.

Asus gpu support (USA) is horrible, I wouldn't recommend them in case you ever have to RMA a card. Google it a bit, or search this forum for complaints about asus (speaking from firsthand experience).

My choice would be 1 970, or if they have fixed SLI which seems to be pretty shoddy lately going by a number of reports, 2 970's. I wouldn't even bother with the 980 since the premium is steep for barely anything.

What resolution are you dealing with?

I have the G1 GTX 970s and they are awesome. Run very cool, and automatically boost to almost 1400mhz without lifting a finger..

Also the SLI performance issues were fixed as far as I can tell. It's true that the launch drivers did have dropped frames for SLI setups, but I haven't experienced any since NVidia's subsequent drivers.

Sorry about that... three 1920x1080 on end(1920x3240??)

I have read quite a bit on the GPU RMA issues ASUS has... it kind of surprises me because I did an RMA on a MB with no problems. Granted different RMA sites

Does anyone recall which brand/model of the 900s had the issues at launch? This was card specific issue not driver related. - Nevermind, found it: EVGA Acx version.
