I recently experienced the hell of trying to get a Radeon 9700 Pro video card to not crash in 3D games while using 8X AGP (this is a widely known problem, and is due to a conflict between the way the KT400 chipset handles 8X AGP and ATI's implementation of 8X AGP). I had to resort to reinstalling my original GeForce3 Ti200 to play 3D games or run 3D benchmarks without crashing. I know that buying a nforce2 chipset motherboard is one solution, but I really like my KT400 motherboard and I really don't want to replace it. As a casual gamer, I don't need the power of a Radeon 9700 Pro, so I'm considering replacing the Radeon with a GeForce4 video card. My question is this: are the GeForce4 cards able to run at 8X AGP on KT400 chipset motherboards without a lot of hassle?
