Nvidia 8800GT overclock - is the shader hardware located on the main G92

Hi all,

I've just got my hands on an XFX 8800gt Alpha Dog XXX 512MB card. I've removed the stock cooler and replaced with Thermalright HR-03 GT cooler + fan. It's fab; card runs at 36 degrees when not under load in a heated room. My thoughts have now turned to overclocking. I'm using Rivatuner 2.06 which allows you to separately clock the core and shaders. As the Thermalright solution really just deals with the main G92 chip (you just get passive heatsinks for the other cooled chips which actually probably aren't as good as the stock cooker), I'm wondering if I can ramp the core and shaders up together or is the shader located elsewhere on the card (and hence requires more caution!)?

I'd say the shaders should be on the main die with everything else, but as always use caution when overclocking. Cooling isn't the only factor that dictates overclocking.

Many thanks! I shall exercise caution but will see what I can get out of the chip. I was running at 720mhz core with the stock cooler so I hope I can get a few more drops out of it!
