Nvidia 8800 Ultra numbers

LET'S KEEP THIS short and sweet, with the numbers slightly blurred.

The Nvidia 8800U samples we saw look just like Theo said with OEM parts going out at 612/1080 clock. The cooler is designed for quieter not cooler operation.

The core OCs decently with about 10% higher achievable, with memory not getting anywhere near that.

On a highly OCed Kentsfield running at about 3.5GHz - all numbers slightly blurred to protect the guilty - 2G of DDR2 running at 1200MHz on a 680i board, the score I can talk about is 22,000+ in 3DMark05.

In the end, it looks like the card is memory bound, not core bound. The Ultra scores better than a GTX with a massive core OC, so it looks like the main upgrade here is the memory. Call me overly skeptical, but is this really worth that much of a premium?
 
I think this info was posted back in March. Anyways, this hasn't been proven (or disproven), nor have I seen any follow up on the subject since then. Gotta laugh at FUD though, as they say "We were right all along!" at the same time quoting the same old March article which is only speculative. Fudzilla loses another reputation point, and gains another FUD point. LOL
 
First, repost. Second, there is no ACTUAL PROOF that the G80 has more than 128 stream processors - read the original article. Third.. for god's sake it's Fudzilla!
 
Woa, the G80 info has a date of March 28. While the R600 info has a date of April 29. Seen that date, and thought they both were updated info. My bad....Still an update of some sort at least for R600 I guess.

Actually, the 160 shader figure makes sense in some respect. I was always wondering how the accumulation is done in the G80. Now come to think of it, these "extra" shaders are probably just the accumulators (adders) all along.

I'm guessing that during matrix multiplies or dot products, these special function shaders serves as the accumulator of the 4 components after the component-wise multiplies are done. Then that would mean the shader groups are probably set to 4-component clusters for these instructions. But since it's usually 3 or 4 compoenents for matrix multiplies and dot products, that means the flexibility loss concern is pretty much moot.
