NVidia 8300 with AMD Phenom II X2 550

Hi,

Can anyone tell me whether NVidia 8300 motherboard supports Phenom II X2 550 or not? Because Phenom II X2 550 is an AM3 processor.

I am putting together a new system and my hardware guy has suggested this config. I went on AMD website and checked in the motherboard compatibility filter. It doesn't even mention Nvidia 8300 boards for Phenom II X2 processors.

Please help.

ASUS M4N78 series will take the X2 and X4 CPU's. You might have to update the BIOS for it to recognize an X4. There is a thread on this site about the M4N78 Pro and the M4A78 Pro. After reading some (many) negative reports on the M4N I went with the M4A.
