Is there going to be a way to upgrade the coolers on this card? Or do you think that the stock coolers are sufficient? I plan to do some moderate to heavy OCing with Rivatuner. Will you even be able to water cool this bad boy?

I doubt it, cause it's a one-of-a-kind card and it'll be a waste of money for developers to make coolers from them. User-made solutions, however, are already available.

I have my xfx extreme 7950gx2 at 600/1600 with the stock cooler and my temps are fine.

Idle:47-48
Load:72-73

It seems all the reviews I have read says this card out performs the 7900GT in SLI (also seems like there have been some price drops for 7900gt). Would it be worth getting the 7950 over 7900GT SLI considering OC for both cards.

I forgot does the XFX extreme come stock 520 or 570. I know that XFX makes 3 models with different clok speeds. Just wanted to know how much OCing you got ot of the cards.

Also has anyone seen any reviews of the XFX overclocked models VS the standard 500/1200 of any the other companies....BFG,eVGA, PNY etc. Doesnt seem anyone else is making an out the box OC model.

the extreme comes 520 and the XXX comes 570.

I have my extreme well over the XXX speeds and the temps run just fine and is stable as can be right now.

If you are wanting to overclock and use different coolers or water cooling on this card the best way of doing it, short of making your own heatsink, is to just get 2 7900gt's and SLI them. Then you can water cool, or air cool to your heart's content.

7950 is much faster then sli'd 7900gt's though

voltmodded 7900gt's on the other hand is another story

By 3-5 frames in FEAR from what Anandtech shows.

I agree.

And? You still have the bottom GPU to consider.

Well, it was only a suggestion but if you could keep the top card cool, then the bottom one will/could also benefit.

The only way i see the 7950GX2 being "aftermarket" cooled is by watercooling.

Won't work.

Why?
Because there would be no room on the back side for the mounting hardware.

Agreed. Although due to the small GPU water blocks required to fit in between the two pcb's who know just how much of a benefit you would be getting. Not may blocks are that small.

The new graphics board from EVGA will belong to the family of Black Pearl graphics cards, which are the premium offerings from the company. Usually, the Black Pearl products come with water-cooling and increased clock-speeds. Typically, the price of the top products in the lineup approaches, orexceeds, the $1000 mark

I have yet to see a black pearl ready to buy They always talk about them but they never make it to market in very large numbers. Plus $1000 for just the 7950GX2? No thanks! I guess if you don't have a SLI motherboard then it would be nice, but if you have a $1000 I am pretty sure you can afford an SLI motherboard two 7900gt's and the water to cool them.

Nope.

Opened box, inserted card. Overclocked.

Done.

600/1600 is a good increase over the XXX.

I know I can get more I just haven't tried.
The core was up over 600, I just haven't had the time to test out were the limit was so I left it at 600 for now :)

How high do you think you could get? Have you seen other significant overclocks with stock cooling?

I know I could probably push 620 on the core, I breifly did it and was running very good. But I need to test it longer than I had time to.

When I have more time to properly test it out I will.

But for now 600/1600 is running great!

This card runs very good in my system. It actually runs cooler than my previous 6800gt!

I do have very good air flow though which helps alot!

Nice. If you do decide to go for more, the most effecient way to go about doing it would be 27Mhz increases. At least, this is what I've learned how to do with the 7 series and it worked great on the 7800's I had. I think I remember reading how the vertex shaders and pixel shaders kick up a cycle or something. It is a little fuzzy as to why exactly 27Mhz worked the best, but I remember some material concerning it.

At what temperature do you begin to see artifacting? My 7800's were a different die size afterall so the temperatures may or may not be comparible to the stability between the two. I think mine could get up to around 77C before artifacting depending on the memory settings.

What OC tool are you using? I am using cool bits and when i OC to 575/775 I get a lower 3dMark05 score.. 5000 lower. I think when I OC with coolbits its only ocing one gpu.

Start -> Run -> regedit

1. Select My Computer in the tree on the left.
2. Edit -> Find -> "coolbits" without quotes - make sure Values is checked.
3. Double-click on coolbits, and set its value to 1A.
4. Re-open the nVidia Control Panel or whatever.
