Here is my problem. I am building a rig with (2x) eVGA 7800GT 256MB. Now I am reading that nVidia will be releasing noth the 7900GT & 7900GTX on March 9th. Should I wait until the new release to get my PC, or just get it now??? I don't know what price point nVidia is going to be selling these 7900's at, and I'm not rich. Advice??????Anyone?

At this point, I'd wait a couple weeks to at least see what they have coming. Current rumors (from the Inq, so take that for what you will) are that the 7900GT may be closer in performance to the 7800GTX, for a similar price to the 7800GT. Still just rumors, but if you can live for ~2 weeks without a new system, they could turn out to be good cards.

Of course, then you could wait a couple more weeks to see what the X1900XL is... you can always wait longer. At some point you just have to decide to buy something. :p

AFAIK the 7900GTXs will be going for $499, and the 7900GT will go for $299, so I'd say wait.

rumors

sometimes rumors are good :p

Like how the 7900GTX was going to have 32 pixel pipes and run at 750mhz and the 512 was suppose to be widely available.

Wait for the geforce 9 or equivalent series....or maybe the xx99900xtx-pe multi-gpu quad xfire?

In all seriousness, i'd suggest waiting until the 7900gt is release, if only to catch a price drop for 7800gt's, but no more so than that, unless you see stats claiming AM2 will be alot faster, or you'll be waiting forever.

i hear the 7900gt will be $299 and 7900gtx will be $599 and the bad part is its just a rumor.. any ways just wait i think nvidia will respond to this soon enough.. and i also heard a price drop for the 7800GTX 512 ($399) can u afford that i would excpect a price drop anyway for the 7800 series not 7900 that is after the release of the 7900..

iam getting a new pc but i will definately wait for the 7900gt (talking in terms of price drops)

You know... you should definitely wait until Nvidia releases their geforce 11000GTX extreme platinum gold series... you know, the one with the 17 karat diamond embedded in the imbedded self-cooling liquid nitrogen set? Yeah, but then ATi would come out with the XTX2600XTXXXXXXX with auto Nvidia-destroy built in.

In the world of GPUs??? Yeah... that's buy high, sell low... *sigh*

Kind of my feelings. You could keep waiting forever because something else is in the pipeline. But, in this case, I will wait and see what the price point for the 7900 is going to be.......Thanks guys.
