I recently upgraded from a CRT to a 22" LCD and ever since, I've been having resolution issues (I think). If I attempt to run a game or any video application the screen begins to flicker. I have the latest drivers for my video card. Here is what I did and I'm puzzled as to why it works.
Vista64, Samsung Synchmaster 2253BW 22" lcd + KDS 19" CRT
The lcd is the main monitor(1) and the crt(2) sits at idle until I need it for this gimmick.
Step 1: I open display properties and set the crt(2) to "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" and "This is my main monitor". Click yes to confirm.
Step 2: Uncheck "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" on monitor lcd(1)
Step 3: Drag monitor 1 back to the left which brings up a dialog box to enable this monitor. I click yes then Apply
Step 4: Check "This is my main monitor" on lcd(1) yes to confirm
Step 5: Uncheck "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" on the crt(2).
Now if I wait too long it wont work but if I immediately go and open the game it stays working indefinitely. I also set my powersave mode to 1 minute so that if the monitor does go out of sync then I wait 1 minute and then move the mouse and it comes back to normal then I can repeat my steps.
If there is already a solution then I'm not seeing it. Just curious as to why this is working for me but if I skip any step it doesn't work. Thanks
