nvidia 7800 gs agp

Yeah but what are the chances it'll be more than a 16 pipeline solution? So you'll pay $300 for a 350mhz 16 pipe card vs. 400mhz 20 pipe PCIe 7800GT for $300?

if it means being able to keep cpu and motherboard? Oh yes.

You've got to be f-ing kidding me. I bought a 6800 GS late last week which is on its way to me now. Gave up on the hope of them giving us current gen vid cards for AGP, and I hear about this today? Oh well, know I'll like the card I'm getting as I had a 6800 GT. Probably hang onto everything and upgrade the whole system later on.

You can feel alright knowing that the 7800gs is coming in at a different price point, meaning the 6800gs is unlikely to drop in price.

it only has to spank the x850xt/6800GS/GT/Ultra

and this news has been posted several times already

[REpost] 😛

so whats is the point of this card besides giveing AGP users what they had last gen(just because they stop making the good old 6800GT/Ultras)

I concurr

Is this really wise? For $300 you can get an AGP 7800GS and keep your old motherboard, but for ~$500 you can get a 7800GT PCI-E, an nForce4 SLI motherboard and a socket 939 Athlon 64 3000+. This not only gets you a better video card, but most likley a better performing processor, plus the ability to go SLI or have room to upgrade the processor as well. Needless to say, you'd have to use your exsiting DDR RAM. So, those of you with Rambus are screwed (but that isn't any new info).

well, the time to pull out everything, install new one, update OS (probably reinstall) will run at least 3 hours. 3 hours x $3x= ~$100

in addition, I'm lazy...

$300 7800GS vs:
A64 3200+ (cheapest 939 available): $160
7800GT: $290
Decent SLI motherboard: $120
Total: $570

Close to double now, not worth it. Especially when you consider my personal situation. I bought a new socket a motherboard and cpu (3000+ from a 1700+) less than a year ago. No way in hell am I touching this rig again in those departments for another year at least.

Yeah, w/e man. I disagree, leave it alone.

And assuming things about somebody's situation and past purchases doesn't paint you in such a good light.

I fully expect ATI to deliver a X1800XL (or at least a better performer) in AGP within 1-2 months. The graphics biz is "tit-for-tat".

If so, great 🙂

My post was simply to present an alternate view on the "this is the best option for AGP owners" angle, you were the one who challenged my claim that it could be done for around $500, brought your rig into it, and now you're trying to judge my character.

Honestly, I don't care how you spend your money, but other people in a similar situation as you might find a $500 system upgrade more compelling than a $300 video card only upgrade. Of course, it does come down to funds... $300 might be swingable, but not $500. In that case you wouldn't have the option and the point is moot to begin with.

it's kinda funny how this always turns into a AGP/PCIe, uprade to PCIe now or you'll be sorry thread. personally i say "yeah" for the 7800GS AGP if and when ever it comes out, but my guess it might be the last G70 to go AGP. the main concern should be the price/performance of this card. 7800gs PCIe reference by that review from AT in most benches it outperforms the 850XT(which is the KING of AGP) but i expect e-tailers will definetly take advantage of the those die hard AGPer's who sorely want a high-end AGP card upgrade.

you know in year or so it will be PCIe II so geting a board may not be best thing if you only get a new comp every 3+ years.

I have a P4 3.4 GHz and 1 GB RAM (about to upgrade to 2) . I'll gladly do a $300 upgrade now and upgrade everything sometime next year when newer tech comes along. This Radeon 9800 Pro has gots to go.

Yeah, with an AXP3000+ and a gig of ram i'm in the same boat. I'm happy with my system except for my 9800 non pro.
