Guick question. I'm thinking of upgrading from a superclocked gtx 660 to a 760. Right now I play at 1080p.

Playing:

Defiance
Skyrum
Sleeping Dogs
Far cry 3
Star Wars The Old Republic
Diablo 3
World of Warcraft
Rift
and a few other...

I like the settings cranked all the way up.

Just curious which would be better nvidia 760 would be better for me:

A superclocked 2 gig model for around $260:

or a regular clocked 4 gig model for around $290:

I also read the 2 gig model is voltage locked and the 4 gig is not. Not sure if that's true or not so not a big factor although I will attempt to O.C. I probably wouldn't even mess mith voltage.

wasn't sure if you would even see a performance bump doubling the vram on a 256 bit bus.

Other hardware specs:

I have 16 gb of ddr3 and an i5 2500k O.C.ed on liquid cooling and OCZ 750 PSU

Thank you very much for your time :)

With more RAM, you'll be able to run mods on skyrim with no problem. I'd go with a 4gb.

Unless you are running modded games or running a very high resolution then 2gb will be fine.

I rather have a faster 2gb card than a 4gb slower card at this time.

Unless you mod the crap out of Skyrim, stick with a 2GB card. It should be fine @ 1080P for awhile.

4GB on a GTX 760 is kind of like putting Pirelli P-Zero tires on my wife's Honda Odyssey...;)

vote 2gb but.......

surely the 760 faster, but do you really think its gonna be much of an upgrade? I mean for the money. I hope your gonna sell your old GPU so that its not such a huge hit. How much are used 660s going for these days?

brand new they go for around 150-160 afer rebate. the 6 series dropped considerably after the 760's came out. heck you can get a 660ti for about 235 now. It would be an upgrade considering the performance gain going from a 660 to a 660ti on average was 20-30%, and the new 760 is only about 5-10% less than the performance of a 670. With O.C. the 760's performance falls right between the 670 and 680.

Nvidia kind of cut into their own market with this. So I figure after the initial stock of 7 series sells they will up the price for them, but who knows.

As for the current 660, I have a mini tower it's going to go into for a mobile gaming rig

I regards to overclocking the 4 gb version. I agree, you can always attempt but of course it's a gamble. There is no guarantee with overclocking. Just kind of makes me leary because even my own experience has been hit or miss with O.C.ing, and my personal experience with the EVGA 660's was there wasn't much room to O.C. at all, and that was after working with several of them.

Sometimes the superclocked versions have better chips, but sometimes they don't. But you know you will definitely have a faster clock than the reference design. Also I believe the 4 gb model is on an older 6 cooler so I'm not sure if that means it's an older stock pcb or not.

With that being said both the 4gb and superclocked 2gb models have a reference cooler. For just 5 dollars less than the superclocked model, They have a regular clocked 760 with an aftermarket cooler. Not sure if the cooler would make a big difference or not...

I really do appreciate everyone's feedback :)

On a side note. My Mobo is SLI capable and I do have enough power for it. I could get another 660, but I was concerned about the glitches with multi gpu's and was thinking I would be better to upgrade from the 192 bit memory bus as even the 660ti has the 192 bit memory bus...

With the new 760 the Memory bus is uped to 256 bit...

hmm? with the 256 bus a 760 sli would be substantially better than a 660sli

But since you already have another PC for the 660 then your upgrade is really necessary. You could get a single 760 and later down the road cheaply throw in another 760 for some serious power. I believe 760SLI is much faster than titan. It should scale much better than a pair of 660s for sure.

Also, the newegg link is out of stock but there are some very great aftermarket coolers out and often they are priced well. It pays to always do a little research before you buy. I hear the ACX is fantastic, here is a cheaper one (with splinter Cell blacklist) in stock http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=8333216

Well everyone thanks for the input. I actually found an EVGA 760 superclocked 2 gb model with the ACX cooler for $259, and free copy of Splintercell (although never played a splintercell game).

Should be here tomorrow. Excited to see how it fairs against the 660. Once ahain thanks everyone.

760 is not much of an upgrade over a 660 to be honest, but it is an upgrade.

A 760 is like 5-7% faster than a stock 660 Ti for example. Not sure where your getting its right in the middle of a 670 and 680. (unless it's overclocked)

I'd go for a Overclocked 7950 3GB. 1200 core will push you into 680/770 Territory which is a better upgrade and a better bus.

Edit: See you bought - Enjoy!

The 4gb 760 is a nice option to SLI in higher resolution monitors. Titan performance at half the cost.

Awesome card,i came close to purchasing such a card myself but at the last minute my overall budget jumped for a gpu upgrade and i went gtx770 or else i would have easily picked the same gpu as you.

Enjoy your new card.
