At 294mm2 GK104 is not Big Kepler, and while NVIDIA doesn’t comment on unannounced products, somewhere in the bowels of NVIDIA Big Kepler certainly lives, waiting for its day in the sun. As such this is the first NVIDIA launch where we’re not in a position to talk about the ramifications for Tesla or Quadro, or really for that matter what NVIDIA’s peak performance for this generation might be.

So nVidia didn't blow their load with the 680 release? They've still got a powerhouse under wraps.. have there been any leaks/rumors on when or what their next card released will be?

I've got a 7970 but I really want an nVidia card on one of my PCs for 3D..

690 is suppose to be the dual chip card afaik.

Should arrive next month and is 2 slightly downclocked GTX 680's (GK104).

We can only assume that since the gk104 is called GTX-680 that it's the Big Kahuna for this series. The rumors for the 500mm^2 chip is gk114 and it won't be out until Q3/Q4 2012 (again, rumored). This is if 28nm manufacturing, and nVidia engineering, can support that big of a chip by that time.

They had a lot of difficulty with manufacturing on 40nm too. The fully functional 500mm^2 chip was delayed more than a year from when it was supposed to launch. Even smaller chips weren't released fully functioning and delayed. So far, they look to be having less difficulty on 28nm, but still, difficulty none the less.
