Nvidia 680i Question

So i just bought an nvidia 680i and i need to buy a cooler for the Intel processor I'm gonna out on it. I m looking for some recommendations for a cpu fan. Possibly a good place to buy one as well.

Welcome to AT Forums!

Anyways, are you going to be overclocking? Then I'd suggest the Tuniq Tower, Thermalright Ultra120 eXtreme, or the Thermalright IFX-14.

If not, then the Zalman 9700 is a great quiet cooler, but it's not really good for OCing.

Well, thanks a lot, no i don't foresee any overclocking. I think i might steer away from push pins, they haven't worked out well for me in the past, i always got 3 pins in, and the 4 pin would always pop another out. I've been told clamps are a good way to go, is this true?
Also, backplates, what do those over others and are their any good ones on Newegg? I'm searching but don't really know what I'm looking at.

A Zalman 9500 is a good cooler with a backplate. It's fairly simple to install but you do have to remove the motherboard.
Zalman 9500 on Newegg
Right now, that's the cheapest price, and it's quiet and performs moderately well and looks cool. It is great at stock speeds but not for OCing.

I have a 9700 and it actually OCs really well. especially if you can get good inlet air from the front of the case and point the zalman out the rear of the case with the standard exhaust 120

3.5 on 680i 6600 running at low 30s idle 40-43 occt load

I would second the 9500 recommendation for a non-overclocked system.

BTW, are you going dualcore or quadcore?

PCTC2, I'm gonna be quadcore, right now I've got a Pentium D 930 in a Dell XPS 400.
someone recommended the Thermaltake CL-P0268 any thoughts on this?
