Been really busy lately and no time to catch up with current PC upgrades. Finally got some 2 weeks of free time so I've decided to catch up with modern 'standards'. First up is the motherboard. I'm trying to decide which one of the chipsets is worth it, nvidia 680i or Intel x38? Pros and cons for each?

Also, is it worth it to get DDR2-1066 instead of 800? And does the newer 1333mhz bus C2D's have any real world advantages over 1066mhz FSB C2Ds?

Thanks.

X38 mobos will be replaced by X48 mobos in the coming months. The same goes for 680 mobos as 780 will come out sometime before Xmas. I would suggest that you wait for a couple of months if possible and pick an nVidia board only if you?ll be utilizing SLI. If you can?t wait then it all comes down to SLI again. If you need SLI the 680 is your best choice, if you don?t then you should either go for a good P35 or X38 mobo. (Like jonmcc33 I would go for a P35 as they seem to have less problems)

You should definitely go for a 1333 FSB cpu. Most, if not all of the upcoming 45nm penryn cpus will feature a 1333 FSB.

It?s also likely that by the end of the year DDR3 prices will become more attractive. DDR2 have better latencies but DDR3 are catching up fast and it?s only a matter of time before mobo manufacturers stop producing high-end boards with DDR2.
