nvidia 6800?

i recently bought a evga geforce 6800 used. ive now realized that everyone seems to have a 6800gt or a 6800gs, lots of suffixes. mine has no such thing. did i buy a bargin model or will it still be fairly good? 🙁

You got a vanilla model; it's basically a 6800GT with some pipelines disabled and lower clock speeds. It won't perform as well as the 6800GT, unless you're lucky enough to have gotten one that allows unlockage of all its masked pipes.

Check in Rivatuner or w/e if you want to know the exact specs, but if you have a 6800 with no suffix after it that usually means 6800 NU or Vanilla. It's not a bad card, with 12 Pixel pipelines and a decent clock, but it's not going to be powerful enough to run the newest games. Performance will be at or a bit better than 6600GT level.

And about the other 6800s...

6800LE: Stripped down version of your card, slower
6800GS is your card with faster clock speeds
6800GT is your card with similar clock speeds but 16 PPs, bit faster than GS
6800Ultra is a GT with faster clocks, comparable to X850 series

I used that card for a year and sold on ebay for $155 in January.....replaced it with a x850xt. I still live in the AGP world though I'll be going with a new Conroe system soon. It's an OK card but getting long in the tooth. H*ll, my x850xt is long in the tooth.

I am running a Leadtek 6800 and it is a great card, especially if you can unlock the pipes. On newer games, you will have to turn down a few details to medium levels and on Oblivion I had to run at 1024x768 for it be very playable. A good card, all in all.
