nVidia 6600GT (AGP). How noisy is it? How much Wattage?

I'm thinking about getting this one. My Qs:

1) how noisy is this thing? If loud, is it loud all the time or only when pushed.

2) how much power does it need? I have a 2yo Dell Dimension 8200 which a PS rated 250W, though I hear Dell underrates it.

thanks

Have no idea about noise but here is an idea.

Remember when you look at the chart, this is looking at total system wattage (everything in the box) and you only care about the single card 6600GT.

The test bed is different from your machine, but this at least gives you a ballpark estimate. It looks like your 250 watt PSU could probably handle it under load. Not much room for error though.

Be careful about replacing the power supply, unless you fix the MB connectors (adapters on eBay?) or get a Dell-compatible PSU from www.pcpowerandcooling.com ($149 for a 425 watt). They also list a $79 PSU but don't say if it will work with your 8200 (you could email).

If you did get the PCPower PSU and didn't mind spending even more on a video card, gigabyte makes a passively-cooled 6800 plain (non-GT) for $300.

Yes, it is exactly that -- the AGP slot can't supply enough power so you also must attach one standard HD / CD power connector from the power supply.
