After looking at reviews of the 680i, it seems like that's the chipset to go with for C2D over the intel 975x boards.

My question is this...
I am building a system and SLI does NOT matter to me (I won't be using it). Obviously, it will be a C2D processor with DDR2 800 (2GB). I may o/c a little but nothing major. System will need performance for games and I'll probably go with an 8800GTS.

Anyway, instead of paying well over $200 for the 680i boards, do you see any major/noticeable performance decrease in going from a 680i board to one based on the 650i Ultra?

I was wondering if waiting for those boards would be worth it or if anyone knows anything on their performance? It would be nice to save ~$100 but if a performance hit is going to be noticeable it might not be worth it to me.

Why not stick with one of the proven 965 boards if you're not interested in dual graphics cards? Nothing beats intel stability...nVidia doesn't have the strongest track record with boards for intel chips at this point and the 680i boards haven't changed anyone's opinion yet.

I just swapped motherboards last night (for the 3rd time on this platform). Starting with a DS3 to P5B Deluxe and now 680i. Contrary to popular belief, the 965 isn't all what its cracked up to be, there are a few catch 22s that you should read up on if OCing. Also, make sure you get good RAM.

The 680i was the most painless and troublefree installations i've done since the old 939 nf4 setup. My advice is to wait, especially if you plan to OC. No need to worry about chipset straps and buying expensive RAM or any of that bs attached to any of the intel chipsets. And on top of that, my E6400 @ 3.2Ghz runs at a cool 28C at idle, compared to ~50C on the DS3 and P5B.
