Hi All,

I'm currently debating between two laptops. I don't plan to do hardcore gaming. I looking at GTA IV, starcraft 2, battlefield 3, and black ops. Not exactly 2012 cutting edge graphics games. Would the 635M be overkill for these games?

Thanks

There won't be any killing going on here. BF3 alone is enough to take the graphic card down.

A gt 650m laptop would be best if you can acquire one.

I can get my hands on a 730M. Would the change in architecture be a noticeable performance improvement over the 635M?

as you can see here,
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-635M.66964.0.html

there is not just a single specification for the 635m, it can use at least 2 different Fermi (400/500 series) GPUs in many different configurations,

the 730m at least is based on Kepler (600 series), which should have better performance per watt, and it's a better GPU than GF116 with only 144sps being used I think, and much better than the GF118 thing (the 96sps version)...
but it can also come with DDR3 or DDR5, which will have significant impact...

anyway, these cards are far from overkill, the 610m is simply to slow for BF3...
