I'm upgrading a computer for someone who presently has an 32Mb GeForce MX card in. They have £90 or less to spend on a graphics card and I've singled it down to one of the above (Their money doesn't stretch to the Pro or XT version of the Radeon ot it would be an easy choice!) Either of the two cards I've mentioned above will be a good increase from what they have in at the moment, but between the two which is going to give them the best performance/compatibility in games etc

Don't want to start an Nvidia/Ati war, just after some good advice please

i was faced with the 9600 vs 5600xt choice and got the 9600 since well it was cheaper and better. if you do somehow get a 5600xt make sure you get a 128bit one, and not a 64bit one (4 mem chips)

Seems like that reviewer at ocprices is as confused about the naming here as I am.

He keeps calling the 9600SE an XT.
And GeForceFX 5600 XT? When did that happen, did a 5950 rape a poor 9200 or somrthing?

I think the performance between the two is reasonably close. However, the 9600 is slightly faster. The 9600 can pretty much keep pace the the 5600 standard. It even beats it out in the most video card intensive situations. Tom's Hardware recently updated their VGA charts. It has the 5600 standard and the 9600 standard both.
