Fiscal year 2009 ENDS in January 2009...what calendar do they use??!! I don't like the way companies do their financials sometimes.

Ouch.

It could have been worse i guess, but hopefully this will give them a big of a wake up call.

Here is the link

Cant wait for the conference call for more info though (and hopefully B3D will cover this). This will probably shed some more light on how nvidia actually faired in various markets.

Do they ever break up their earnings by sector?

Yep, you'll have to wait for the 10-K though most likely, I didn't see it in the linked press kit. Its not showing in their SEC filing link yet either.

Results are pretty much as expected though, ~50% lower revenue from sales as announced months ago, but the main cause for concern however is the drop in gross margins from 40%+ to 30% in this quarter. Still, Nvidia's key strength is their operating overhead is so low compared to its asset/goodwill/debt-laden competitors so their overall outlook to weather this recession is good. In fact, they've actually increased spending in key areas, like R&D from last year.

Tech is down all over...I doubt they needed any sort of wake-up call.

They gained marketshare last quarter

JPR says Nvidia managed to take back some market share from AMD. Nvidia's slice of the overall GPU market rose from 27.8% in the third quarter to 30.7% in the fourth, while AMD's share fell from 20.6% to 19.3%.

Some points from the summary:
-Revenue down 60%.
-Margins at <30%.
-Workstation business is also in the decline.
-Lots of cash on the balance sheet.
-Still some 65nm inventory left.
-Generally everything is down because of the current economic mess.
