Have a evga 7800gt for a few years and decided to update drivers for feces and giggles. Anyway, took off old drivers, did a clean sweep and now when I boot up windows tells me it is looking for:

SM Bus Controller
Other PCI Bridge Device
PCI Memory Controller

What gives?

Asking me to load software to fix these devices...any thoughts?

thanks

You need to reload your chipset drivers for your mobo. Intel.com, Nvidia.com, or ATI.com, then match your actual chipset. Know what your mobo model is?

Are you using an Nvidia chipset perhaps? sounds like you cleaned off too man drivers. These drivers can be found on your install disk for your motherboard.

ok will give it a try...taking disc out as i type...will download from site that you listed...

awesome, give us an update when you get it in, those are the final NF4 series drivers for XP (Vista is semi-supported by built-in NF4 support, but no Nvidia-created features are available really).

well i downloaded and the wizard pretty much did its job...only one thing was not loaded because it told me to take its predecessor off....i didn't for fear of fubaring something up.

Anyway...booted it up and didn't see any prompts telling me to look for software...will try some things and see how it works.

Much appreciate you taking the time to get me through this...

Wish it was that easy to fix my other computer...thought the motherboard was dead (no sound when u turn on computer...bought another board (MSI 939) but still having the same problem. Might be a power supply problem...video card? Thinking about trashing and rebuilding..5 years old... starting to ramble.

anyway...kudo's to you guys helping a novice out!!

Happy that helped. Hmm, might need a better description on the problems with the other pc. Do you get no video / fans spinning / leds? First thing to check is PSU in that case.

fires up...just don't get that typical "beep" from the motherboard. Fan on video card is turning so is the cpu. get nothing on my lcd. Just went out and gave the thing a quick look over...fan on psu is running (i know that is pretty much irrelevant.... will look into it more.
