nv4_disp error when i try to play games

I got an error last night while I was playing world of warcraft and it closed. I tried to open it again but it just froze when it got to the login screen. I got some kind of error with "nv4_disp"...i ignored it the first time and just restarted but it was still messed up. I removed the video card driver and it made me restart, and i'm guessing it automatically installed it again. anyway...The same thing happened again when I tried to open WoW. I also tried to open Guild Wars with pretty much the same results...it just seems to be having problems with opening games..I haven't had any problems using my 3D modeling program. So i'm kinda stuck here...any ideas on what i might try? I have an 8800GT video card. I've been to nvidia's website and downloaded the new drivers but nothing happened.

update:

I tried opening another program and it froze again..this time i got a blue screen and then the computer shut down. somehow i feel the graphics card is fine because it can still run a 3D modeling program without any noticeable difference from before.
