Please move if it should be in another section, I felt it would be best here.

Basically when I play Team Fortress 2, and ONLY Team Fortress 2 (8+ Hours of Fallout 3, or Crysis, or FarCry 2, or L4D demo does this).

It happens anywhere from 10 minutes of playing, to waiting 4 hours to strike.

The game freezes, the sound loops, then my display goes to 800x600 and with 8 bit color giving me a message that nv4_disp.dll has failed (Or quit working).

After this happens I can hear TF2 playing fine, with chat and game sounds working perfectly, but can't reselect it.

I also do NOT get a BSOD from it, only rejecting me back to desktop.
AVG is usually running. I will start disabling it when playing.

Windows XP2

E7200 @ 3.8
GTX 260 @ stock
4GB Corsair DDR2
Asus P5B [Vanilla] (Could this old P965 chipset have anything to do with it?)
Nvidia 178.13 drivers

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling both the nvidia drivers and the game? IDK if AVG would cause that error, but I've heard of all sorts of weird stuff being attributed to antivirus software. Best to close it I think. I've never had that problem because I always close EVERYTHING running on my computer when preparing to game. It's an old habit from the days when memory was scant.

I was also wondering which drivers to replace my current ones with.

Aside from that I will be memtesting and OTHROSing + looking at a reinstall.

I had horrible studdering on Left 4 Dead with the 180 drivers and went back to the older drivers. Maybe try that. I have a 9800GTX so we have the same drivers. Try that and see if it works.

Do you have AVG 7.5? That causes some problems with half-life based games...

Using AVG Free 8

I ran memtest overnight and got 25 passes, going to ORTHOS next + checkout installing new drivers.

Should I use Driver Sweeper or Driver Cleaner Pro?
I have read that DCP doesn't completely clean out the newer ones?

I'm not even sure if the 169.25's work with the GTX 260, but I know I've updated my graphics card drivers at least a handful of time and then noticed graphical problems here and there in games. Every time I've downgraded back to the 169.25's and everything is perfect again.
