NV40 Celebration Thread!

Sorry bud, but it ain't over until the fat lady (in Canada) sings.

Congrats, NV40 beats a 1.5-year-old core (R3XX)! I think celebration is premature.

What's all the celebration for? These numbers mean nothing until R420 benches are here.

THEN you can celebrate...or cry yourself to sleep.

Actually, the numbers mean nothing until either card is sitting at NewEgg 😛

And even then, its still debateable if those numbers mean anything until the cards cost less than $300.

Ya go that right. I got my Radeon 9800NP for $200 about 4 months ago. Until these next gen cards hit that price point, I could care less. Besides, I'm limited to 1280x1024 by my 19" Planar LCD anyway, so I'm fine for right now.

The ability to play at 2048x1536 in just about any game currently available or soon to be made available, and
The ability to play virtually any game at 1600x1200 with 4X AA and 16X anisotropic filtering enabled at smooth frame rates.
😀

Sorry, but visual quality will suffer at 2048x1536.
I don't know of too many monitors that can truely handle that many pixels without them being combined.
In which case you would be better off with the 1600x1200

Looks good so far, I will be waiting quite awhile for it though. Anyone know how good it OC's though? none of the reivews I have seen seem to say anything about it.

I'll be waiting for a price drop, and my 9500 Pro is doing fine for now and I only have a 470watt PSU

HardOCP 400/1100 -> 430/1200

No point in overclocking reference cards though, they will probably be fairly different from the retail cards.

It's good to see some healthy competition here, I'm waiting for the 6800nu vs X800 Pro review though. Just looking at the 6800 Ultra performance, I'm guessing the 6800nu will not be a significant upgrade over current cards and I imagine the X800 Pro will be similer in performance.

I also think my perception of smooth frame-rates is different from anand's. Looking at the graphs on these hardware sites, I highly doubt 16x12 with 4xaa/8xaf stays over 30 fps in current games (hardocp's review is a good example, plenty of fps minimums in the 20's even at 12x10 with lower aa/af).

2 molex connectors wouldn't be a problem either but the fact they recommend 2 indepedant lines is a bit over-the-top. Most psu's only have 3 lines, 2 with 2 molex and one floppy connector and then one with 4 molex connectors. I don't see how current psu's are gonna be able to service this AND a typical PC with multiple case fans and hard drives.

Does anyone know if there will be released a 6800Go chip?
Because a prescott/6800Go laptop would be really sweet 😀

Has anyone even tried running a trusty 430watt antec or even a 350-400 watt decent power supply by say fortron?

we do not know exactly if it is a no go situation. After all, not all requirements in life are set in stone. Like who changes their car's oil every 5000km like all those companies recommend when in the car manual it says more like 8000-10000miles! Yup, so maybe 480watt is a very conservative estimate.

or it could blow up and go on fire if it dosent get the juice it wants 😛

No thanks. It looks like pretty soon you'll need a separate power supply to run nvidia cards. Boo. Hiss

you meant to say "It looks like pretty soon you'll need a separate power supply to run nvidia and ATI cards. Boo. Hiss"

right....?

You know something none of the rest of us does?
