This has gotten completely out of hand.

So far, for nVidia I have heard that these will be the possible cards:

GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme
GeForce 6850 Ultra
GeForce 6800 Ultra
GeForce 6800 GT
GeForce 6800

For ATi I have heard the following:

RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition
RADEON X800 XT
RADEON X800 Ultra
RADEON X800 Pro
RADEON X800

Anyone else find this a bit confusing? Anyone able to shed some light on this?

From what ive read, the top 2 nv cards u listed are the same and for ati there is no ultra nor an origonal X800 (its instead the X800 SE which based on the specs looks sucky). the xt and the xt platinum may be the same card, but sense they got a different name (the xt plat is just an oc xt), i think they will release them both and Ati's xt plat/NV's UE (or 6850 if you prefer) will be ABOVE 500. then from there on down the 6800U/XT will be 500, the 6800GT/X800pro will be 400 and the 6800 will be 300 along with the X800SE which you didnt list on there.

So, this is what you are saying?

GeForce 6850 Ultra
GeForce 6800 Ultra
GeForce 6800 GT
GeForce 6800

and

RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition
RADEON X800 XT
RADEON X800 Pro
RADEON X800SE

I guess it's the Platinum Edition that bugs me, why didn't they just go up to something like X900 XT? Also, is it just me, or would 6860 have sounded cooler then 6850?

From reading Anandtech, the XT PE and XT seem to be the same card, but from reading THG's review...

Until then, the new performance leader is ATi's Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition. Let's just hope that ATi stays true to its word and that these cards will be available in more than just homeopathic doses. Even if only the slightly slower non-Platinum XT versions actually make it to the market in high numbers, these should still be able to keep the GeForce 6800 Ultra in check.
