NV38 seals Nvidia's coffin

Just spotted this piece of news over at Gearbox Software's forum.

Nvidia's NV38 (along with the rest of the FX series) has been dubbed as a substandard card by team dx. This means that DX will not include NV in it's developement range for directx10. Team DX made the decision "as a favor to the graphics industry". Team DX claims that NV violated their partnership agreement by changing the DX9 code with their latest set of drivers as caught by Xbit labs recently. This violates the licensing agreement and conpromises DX's quality in order to make it seem as if ATi and NV cards alike display the same image quality (which would be really bad in this case).

I doubt its true (well hope it isn't) but that is if correct thats not funny at all.... :frown: Oh cos I'm lazy 2nite I decided to post this news without actually reading it. I don't mean to start a war... 😉

[edit]

The forum is being hit hard!!!

That's a lie, anyone who wants to can participate in the next version of DX10. They told me I have to buy my own plane ticket though.

Sure they can participate but ATI will have the advantage being able to work with MS hand in hand on DX10, and if Nvidia doesn't get to, that could suck for them and the consumers, us.

NVIDIA will be just as close to MS as ATI is. MS has no motiff to do otherwise. Nvidia was fvcking stupid from walking away from DX9 before though... "Screw you guys, we're making 4x2 pipelines!"

So without the inside drive on DX10, NV will not be able to even optimize their cards as ATi can and will probably fall into bankruptsy just as 3dfx did before them...

Well, I don't trust any source that can't spell out full [short] names of companies and resorts to abbreviations, and doesn't bother to spellcheck : p And another thing, DirectX is an open standard if you pay the money... they could care less who got in, but they would be mad about the DirectX hacks. And, FFR 3dfx went bankrupt since they tried to force their API on other people. They weren't conforming to the standard, so they got squashed. Hell, I could look up DirectX specs if I wanted, they'd [Microsoft] love that. More advertising for them. There should be a source for that... oh wait... THERE IS!

Above: it's motive. perhaps? Grammar and spelling didn't die with the internet, at least I hope.

What a stupid attempt to influence the consumer into buying or not buying from a specific company

I thought it was because they couldn't get competitive products out in time.

I think it's too early to declare nVidia dead - the FX isn't all that great, but nVidia is more than just a graphics company now.

I think that even with nVidia's current state-of-affairs what with the cheating issues and other things that it is essential that they stay in the graphics market. I mean to say, we dont want ATI to become the Microsoft of GPUs do we?! Talk about seriously bad...

If it's true, Nvidia has to do some serious talking to the public about their blatent attempts to cover up a Hardware failure.
They could save face by telling the truth to the public and private parties.
Maybe thats why they want to concentrate on PA devices and get outof the graphic card business.
