According to Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: eclipse
Pronunciation: i-'klips
Function: noun
1 a : the total or partial obscuring of one celestial body by another b : the passing into the shadow of a celestial body

Heh: looks like NV30 will only "partially obscure" the success of R9700, or even worse, will pass into the "shadow" of R9700 ;)

Yeah, if it dosen't cost 600 dollars. The radeon R9700 is insanely fast in itself, how anyone could need anything faster at this point is beyond me. It's good the NV30 is coming though, hopefully R9700 performance will come down to a mid range price so I can upgrade without burning a FAT hole in my wallet. Buying the latest and greatest stuff is just to expensive if you ask me . Odd site by the way, when will these "updates" be sent out? I dont want to end up with loads of junk mail just to get sparse updates.

I personally am hoping the NV30 will come out in a line of cards rather than THE NV30. I bought into the GF4 Ti line by buying a 4200 and running it as a 4400 when I need/want the speed increase. I'd like to buy into the NV30 line in the same way. It's nice having all the bells and whistles that the latest and greatest offers but with a family (wife and 3 kids for me) I just can't afford the top-tier products most of the time.

When is Microsoft releasing DirectX 9 anyways?

I just registered for the nVidia thing, maybe we'll get some neat emails. I hope that the price isnt outrageous. Personally, I want a very fast card, with soild HSF without all the extra's that I will never use. Who really wants to pay $40 for all of that extra stuff!

Just as long as there are competitions so we have lower the price on these cards, I'm happy.

I read somewhere that the NV30 was going to be called "OMEN" or summut like that. :)

[edit]

Main Entry: omen
Pronunciation: 'O-m&n
Function: noun
: a happening believed to be a sign or warning of some future event

Perhaps I missunderstood and it was just the event of releasing the NV30....who knows...;)

NV30 OpenGL
NV30 OpenGL - 10/24/02 8:12 am - By: pelly - Source: Email
Amazon International have sent us a .pdf file illustrating the NV30's OpenGL Extensions. From the file we see that despite supporting DirectX9, only OpenGL supports ( and exploits ) all of the NV30's features. .

please even when Nvidia NV 30 comes out it will be priced higher than the 9700 pro. So it wont compete very well against the ATI 9---- series at all. I think Nvidia NV30 card will come out with a price tag around 450 - 500 $! It better offer much superior performance than 9700 pro and that isnt an easy thing to accomplish.

Isnt ATI launching the r350 before or a little after NV30 to still Nvidia's thunder?

i know that nvidia a few months ago said that the nv30 would not be called "Geforce5" but vr-zone posted this:
"Sources revealed that NV30 will be known as GeForce5 and follow on with the Titanium versions."
So that sucks...
Oh well, like i care, i'm an ati fan.
i'm interested in the comments made about r400 at the 9700 launch.
one of ati's management members shrugged off the r300 launch and said he was more interested in r400.
sounds like something really innovative is coming...not just dx10 and clockspeed.
Guess we'll have to see.
