Now i know we had this discussion several months back, but it would be interesting to see what new names people have seen/come up with - after all it's not going to be Geforce 5 is it?

Well, a computer mag was running a article as requested by nVidia asking if readers were happy with the current naming system, you know, MX Ti, 420, 4400 etc, and whether its better to keep the Geforce name, well here gos my suggestions!

I believe it should be called DreamForce as it has cinematic quality and loads of features we can only dream of right now!

Budget: Dreamforce Value (4 pipes, 2 textures each? 150m polys?)
Mainstream: Dreamforce Titanium (8 pipes, 1 texture each? 350m polys?)
High-End: Dreamforce Movie (8 pipes, 2 textures each? 500m Polys?)

Professional Budget: Dream-On GLKiller!
Professional High-end: Dream-On Magic!

I f you're reading nVidia, please contact me if you like it!!

well your names are kinda well not right for a video card, but yeah i believe nvidia is going to change their naming.
i read in an article they may use some naming from the 3dfx card that was going to take over the world if they had 6 more months.
The name was Rampage, 3dfx's next gen card.

Yeah, The only trouble with using Rampage is that its sooooo legendary - heck if it came out around Geforce3's launch we would all be using cards with nearly a BILLION polygons a second! After all each Rampage could do 75m polys a sec and 800m pixels a sec, and 3Dfx were 'only' planning Voodoo5 style cards! Think of it GF3 = 35m polys a second and 800million pixels a second, and then the Rampage came out with 150m polys a sec and 1.6Giga Pixels a sec! I wish 3Dfx just held on and risked bankruptcy to get this nVidia crusher to market - rather than be humiliated and shamed by selling itself and all the hard work to nVidia!

Now I understand where you got the "Dream ON" name...

Nvidia should outsource to Powercolor for their names. "Evil Commando" just SCREAMS 3D.:Q

Seriously, I think they would already have it picked out by now. No doubt Nvidias marketing department poured over countless bible scriptures and crossword puzzles to find a suitable name for their new product. It'll probably have Force in there somwhere. Doubt it'll be Dreamforce, not a very manly name! And even if they did use it they wouldn't give you credit for it anyways.

Are they still going to incorporate the word Force into the new name? or are they going for something entirely new?

I vote for Rampage. That would be so cool and would show that at least a bit of 3dfx still lives.

WINNER: Best reason to NEVER name anything Rampage!!!!

Seriously, if Nvidia were to recycle the kiss-of-death handle, "Rampage", they can just call Matrox and sell themselves to them NOW, cuz it'll happen soon enough.
