NV30 killer: OCSystems "Enhanced 9700 Pro"

=O

as if GeForce FX weren't dead enough already, a company called OCsystems has made a version of the 9700 Pro that comes clocked at 415/730 and features the Zalman heatpipe cooler...

not that it will be widely available or anything, but i would think this card would bury the NV30 thoroughly, and since OCSystems sells it at this speed, it wouldnt be "overclocking" per se...

I know it is overclocked, what I meant is that it was backed by a company who was so confident in their system that they would sell it heavily overclocked at default.

It would be interesting to see a comparison, because if it beat 5800 Ultra on the few benchmarks where it had the advantage over the stock card, ATi would have the fastest card on the market even before R350 was released...

true it will not change the face of the market, I just thought it was interesting since it does not seem like NV30 core can get pushed any further.

the FX might give out more juice with new drivers... but since Nvidia had all this time to work on those drivers, im skeptic...
OC? na... cant... too hot as it is and once it is overclocked it heats up even more and underclocks itself to the 2D mode to cool down... and it does this in the middle of a game...
so raising the MHZ will probably just end up with lower MHZ and of course lower performance....
the Radeon will kick even more ass (cant imagine there even being more ass to be kicked)... espeacially if its overclocked and SILENT... something the GFFX is obviously the loser in no matter what...

I'd buy this card for $459 before I'd buy a GF FX at $399.. The silent heat pipe would be nice (compared to nHoover) and the R300 at those speeds should beat an FX.

I think I'd get a zalman and put it on a 9700 pro myself before letting OCsystems have $159 premium.

and yea, one of those coolers would be nice for my HTPC:)

nice

however, i don't think it's entirely safe since "**recommend to use a case with a side intake fan**, but i guess it's still quieter than nHoover - haha

The nHoover FX can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch, or a golf ball through a mile of garden hose. So powerful, it's kind of ridiculous!

Thanks dude! I may get one of those!

i wonder if theres anyone brave (can you find a better fitting word?) enough to buy the GFFX (very brave (or better word... *cough* dumb *cough*)) and stick a zalman on to it... (F**KING INSANE)
huh??? anyone???
anyone willing to spend 400+ bucks and take theyre luck at keeping it cool, while keeping it silent?? :) hehehe...
id like to see the benchmarks of the GFFX once it overheats and underclocks itself... how much of a fight will it put up against ATI's king then???

A GFFX might actually be a decent choice for somebody running a water-cooled setup. Pull that squirrel cage blower off the GPU and replace the double-wide backing plate with a normal single width one and you'd be set.

you kidding??? it would probably heat the water up so much... its hotter than a cpu for crying out loud!!! now imagine someone running a single water cooling system... hes probably running it on a heavily overclocked cpu... maybe cooling the NB and HD as well...
now he connects this "second sun" to it... you think the system will stay stable??? i think itll totally burn the whole deal and the guy will have to constantly put ICE into his resovior...
maybe if you had a little seperate water cooling system just for the FX... that could work... but otherwise... i just see the whole thing crashing, pumps burning, fasteners broken and tubes melting... :)

According to the Inquirer (some other sites say it too but I think they just got it from them) the R350 is supposed to be 10% faster than the GF FX, $150 cheaper, and is set for release in March. I hope that's true. (particularly about the price)

That can't be true, not if it is faster. I would expect it (an R350 board) to be, at the very least, $299. But how is that possible when 9700 Pros still retail for $399 and you can find them online for just over $300 and around $350 at stores? Hell, if the 9700 Pro isn't already $299 MSRP by now, then how will an R350 be $249 by March? The GF FX 5800 Ultra is to be $399 MSRP, the GF FX 5800 is to be $299 MSRP...

Hmm, kinda OT, but with the Nvidia GFX/Blowdrier/Street Blower video card and some high CFM Delta's used as exhaust, I wonder if your case would actually move due to the thrust....

I found a R9700 Pro new on pricewatch for $275. I dunno man...I would tend to agree with you. But I've read this at several sites. They could be doing it to deliver an even more crushing blow to Nvidia. I'll make another thread.

ROTFL. :)

Gainward says that they are going to release a 7dB version of the FX. Personally, I think that is a misprint. I do not know of any 7dB fans around. If they use a heatpipe with no fans, then why do they say it is 7dB. That is why I think that is a misprint.

Misprint? They mentioned it several times. "Quieter than a heartbeat", and said "yes, thats right 7 db".

I think Gainward has it right, just need pictures/benchmarks of the card.

i dunno... gainwards a good company... but 7dB is kinda weird... nothing i know makes just that much sound... even watercooling is rated at more than that...
